The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), says it will commence the review of five new draft environmental regulations in the country.
Enugu State coordinator of the agency, Mr. Pele Egbagiri, said yesterday that the new regulations were the national environmental regulations on the energy sector, hazardous chemical and pesticides.
He said the others were the control of charcoal production, export air quality control and the regulation of dam and reservoirs.
He disclosed that workshops would be organised in all the states before the final review and harmonisation of the regulations in Abuja.
NESREA was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2007 to among others act as an enforcement agency under the Federal Ministry of Environment which aimed at ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all Nigerians.
The agency was equally charged with inspiring personal and collective responsibilities in building an environment conscious society for the achievement of sustainable development.
“We are committed to ensuring that enforceable national environmental regulations are made in all sector of our life that impact on the environment,” he said.
He said that prior to the draft regulations, the agency was already reviewing the 24 national environmental regulations on various sector of the environment through a wide scope and well articulated processes.
