…rules out further extension

The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has extended the deadline for the submission of textbooks and other instructional materials for its 2026 Phase I assessment, reassessment and ranking exercise to August 7, 2026.
The extension, approved under the Federal Ministry of Education, follows the expiration of the earlier deadline of July 3, 2026.
The Council said the new deadline is intended to provide publishers, authors and other eligible stakeholders with additional time to complete and submit their materials for evaluation, while encouraging broader participation in the national textbook assessment exercise.
In a statement issued by the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Council said the decision was taken to ensure that more stakeholders in the publishing industry have the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment process.
He also explained that the extension was designed to ensure broader participation and provide publishers, authors, and other eligible stakeholders with an additional opportunity to complete and submit their materials for participation in the 2026 Phase I textbook assessment, reassessment, and ranking exercise.
NERDC thus urged all intending participants to make use of the extended window, stressing that all submissions must strictly comply with the approved procedures contained in the Textbook Quality Indicators and Submission Guidelines.
The Council noted that the submission guidelines remain unchanged, and are available on its official website for prospective participants.
It, however, warned that the August 7 deadline would not be extended under any circumstances. “No further extension will be granted, and late submissions received after the final deadline will not be accepted under any circumstances,” the statement said.
The Council also expressed appreciation to publishers, authors and other stakeholders for their continued cooperation and support, urging them to comply promptly with the submission requirements to ensure a seamless assessment and ranking exercise.
NERDC conducts periodic assessment, reassessment and ranking of textbooks and instructional materials as part of efforts to improve the quality of learning resources used in Nigerian schools, ensuring they meet national curriculum standards and prescribed quality benchmarks.
