The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented a total budget of ₦244,066,466,734.00 for the 2026 fiscal year, with a strong focus on critical infrastructural development, humanitarian interventions, socio-economic recovery, and institutional strengthening across the North-East region.
NEDC Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mohammed Alkali, made the presentation before the Joint Committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The session was chaired by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Special Duties, Kaka Shehu Lawan, and co-chaired by the Chairman, House Committee on NEDC, Usman Zanna.

At the presentation, Alkali also presented budget performance of the year 2025.
Overall budget performance stood at 100 percent of the total allocation received (₦131,836,332,912.00) and 59 percent of the total budgeted amount (₦290,997,982,557.00).
Members of the Joint Committee commended the Commission’s interventions, particularly in infrastructural development across the region, and expressed support for its leadership in delivering its statutory mandate.
The committee urged the commission to increase bursary and scholarship programs to boost educational development, recovery framework, and roadmap for restoring socio-economic development in the North-East.
