NDLEA raids 6 drug joints in Kano, arrests 15 suspects

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, have dismantled six major drug hotspots across the Kano metropolis, arresting 15 suspects and recovering assorted illicit substances.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Mohammed Maigatari, said the arrests were made during intelligence-led operations carried out across the metropolis.

The raids targeted drug hotspots located in Farm Centre, Kofar Nasarawa, Diga Nasarawa, Dakata (Zango), Filin Polo and Hausawa.

According to the statement, the operatives recovered varying quantities of Cannabis sativa, pentazocine injections, pregabalin tablets and Exol-5 tablets during the operations. The Command said the operations were part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking and abuse networks operating within Kano State and prevent the proliferation of illicit substances in communities.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to sustaining pressure on drug hotspots within Kano and beyond,” the statement said.

The Command added that while it would continue to employ targeted enforcement operations, it was also intensifying non-kinetic strategies, including public sensitisation and community partnerships, to address the root causes of substance abuse. The statement warned individuals involved in the illicit drug trade that the agency would sustain its enforcement activities until such networks were dismantled.

“All those engaged in this illicit business will never see peace unless they repent and embrace legitimate enterprise,” the statement warned.

The Command also urged residents to support its efforts by providing timely and credible information that could assist security operatives in locating and dismantling other drug networks across the state.

It assured the public that the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse would remain a priority, with enforcement and community-based interventions being sustained to make Kano safer and reduce the harmful effects of substance abuse.
