The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dealt a series of blows to drug trafficking networks across Nigeria, intercepting a large consignment of opioids and other controlled substances hidden inside a truckload of building materials while arresting 75-year-old Okebe Samuel in Ebonyi State and four female drug dealers in simultaneous operations spanning Edo, Imo, Kano, and Gombe states.
The most significant haul of the week came on Saturday, June 6, 2026, when intelligence-led operatives intercepted a truck transporting building materials from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Jalingo at the Nukkai Timber Shade in the Taraba State capital. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a massive drug cache concealed beneath the cargo. The 22-year-old driver, Buhari Abdullahi, was immediately arrested.
Items recovered from the consignment included 320,840 tramadol capsules, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 rohypnol pills, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
In Ebonyi State, operatives tracked down and arrested Okebe Samuel, a 75-year-old grandfather, at Okposi, underscoring the agency’s position that age confers no immunity from prosecution. Samuel was found in possession of 300 grams of skunk, which he reportedly retailed in sachets to young people in his community.
In Imo State, a raid on a known drug enclave at Umulolo in the Orlu area led to the arrest of Chioma Okeke, a 32-year-old female dealer, and the seizure of eight kilograms of skunk.

Commending the Taraba, Ebonyi, Imo, Edo, Kano, and Gombe commands for their performance, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig Gen Mohamed Marwa (Rtd), also praised all field commands for maintaining a disciplined balance between drug supply reduction and demand reduction efforts nationwide.
