The Cross River State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a couple, Onun Ikoli and his wife, Itam Onun, for possessing 360 bags of marijuana weighing 4.706 tonnes in Yakurr Local Government Area.
NDLEA State Commander John Anteyi revealed that the suspects claimed the drugs belonged to a tenant who is now on the run.
The agency, he said, is continuing its investigation, aiming to bring all involved individuals to justice.
“As I speak, investigation is still ongoing. NDLEA boss, retired Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa, is bent on bringing this illicit trade to an end.

“Our ears are still on the ground to arrest more suspects. Removing this quantity of illicit drugs from the system is what used to give criminals morale,” he said.
The commander urged residents of the state to collaborate with the command by giving useful information that can lead to the arrest of those engaging in the illicit trade.
However, Mr and Mrs Onun Ikoli denied involvement in the trade, claiming that it was their tenant who owns the drugs.
“I was arrested and brought here because I am the landlady. My husband and I collected the sum of ₦50,000 for a single room from a tenant, unknown to us that the tenant was a drug dealer,” she said.
