NDLEA arrests 230 suspects, recovers weapons, illicit substances in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command has arrested 230 suspects for different drug- related offences and recovered significant quantities of illicit substances and weapons.

The arrest, conducted under the umbrella of the State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation in synergy with the Police, Civil Defence Corps, the Immigration Service, and the Correctional Service, followed a comprehensive 30-day non-stop operation across the state.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Kano Command of NDLEA on Friday, Kano State Commandant of NDLEA, Abubakar Sadiq Ahmad said the raids were targeted at notorious drug hotspots across the state.

He listed the hotspots to include Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Research, Rimi Market, Zango, Kofar Mata, Kano Line, and Ladanai, among other identified drug joints.

He disclosed that their operatives confiscated a variety of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, EXOL-5, diazepam, “Suck and die,” rubber solution, and codeine syrup, alongside several locally made weapons during the raids.

The raids, he explained, underscored the commitment of the Agency and its partner security agencies to eliminate drug abuse in the state.

Ahmad observed that the impact of the operation was already being felt as there had been a noticeable reduction in substance – abuse and drug related criminality n the state..

He lauded the State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori for his guidance, the Department of State Services for their surveillance and invaluable contributions to the success of the operation and the Kano State government for its unwavering support towards the curbing of substance abuse in the state.
