Captain Wilfred Ndidi has pledged to lead Super Eagles to the AFCON 2025 final in Morocco but with the help of Eric Chelle, his assistants and commitment from his teammates.
Ndidi started his reign as Super Eagles captain with a win over Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Wednesday in Fez.The three-time AFCON champions started their AFCON 2025 Group C campaign with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania, powered by Semi Ajayi’s headed opener from Alex Iwobi’s cross, a quick leveler from Charles M’Mombwa, and Lookman’s decisive long-range strike.
In his post-match reaction to the game with Football Temple on social networking platform X app (formerly Twitter), Ndidi said: “It was a good game, the first game of a major tournament is usually like this, but getting the three points was most important.”
On the Super Eagles’ not too impressive play in the second half, the former Leicester City combative midfielder said: “There’s always room for improvement, that we’ll do going forward. The first half was good but in the second it was not that smooth but most importantly we reacted well.”
Asked if he would spur the Super Eagles to the AFCON final, like his predecessor William Troost-Ekong did in the Ivory Coast.
Nidid expressed his optimism: “Sure, but with the help of the manager and other things, it is possible to get to the final.”
