Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tim Sherwood has insisted that Leicester City captain Jonny Evans is largely to blame for the third goal conceded by Leicester City in their humiliating loss to Spurs in a Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening.
A minute and forty-six seconds after the restart, Ndidi had the presumption that he had time with the ball, only for Rodrigo Bentancur to pick his pocket, and then he raced towards the edge of the box before finding the bottom corner.
The Nigeria international was facing his own goal as he was given the ball by Jonny Evans near the center circle.
Sherwood highlighted that the Leicester City central defender had other options and should not have passed the ball to Ndidi who had absolutely no idea what was around him.
In his full-time analysis on Premier League Productions, Sherwood said: “The third goal is a great example of overplaying in the wrong areas, to the wrong players.
“Jonny Evans is an experienced player, plays a straight ball to Ndidi, who was surrounded by Tottenham players.
“Rodrigo Bentancur nicks it off him. He comes in quick and fast, nicks the ball and excellent finish.
“But why is he playing it there? Jonny Evans is very experienced, you can see the picture, pass it to the keeper.
“Whatever you’re doing it’s early in the second half the last thing is to concede again and get Tottenham’s tails up.
“It is poor decision making. I blame Jonny Evans more than Ndidi but if you are going to overplay – this is the philosophy of how the manager wants to play – it is not good.”
With one point from their first seven games of the 2022-2023 campaign, Leicester City are rock bottom in the Premier League standings before their next game against Nottingham Forest two weeks on Monday.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is under intense scrutiny and it remains to be seen whether he will be in the dugout at the King Power Stadium on October 3.
