The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Rivers State has said it would train 50 persons in five skill areas in its Quick-Fix-Demand scheme.
Speaking at the orientation programme for the trainees in Port Harcourt, the Director General of NDE, Abubakar Fikpo, said the ultimate purpose of the programme was to train unemployed people to become self-reliant and employers of labour.
According to him, NDE is a parastatal under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and one of its oversight functions is to train unemployed Nigerians across the country, not only to develop themselves but to train others.
The DG, who was represented at the event by the State Coordinator of NDE, Mrs Maureen Okeji, stated that the programme, according to its design, was meant to last for a month.
Fikpo charged the trainees to be serious with their programme, saying that Federal Government has spent an enormous amount of money in training Nigerians to make them independent.

“Each time we call you for a training scheme programme like this, we want you to be serious. The Federal Government has spent more money to train you not only in Rivers State but across the 36 states of the country,” he stated.
“So, as trainees, do us proud by taking your training skill programme of Quick-Fix-Demand driven scheme seriously.”
NDE boss urged them to be patriotic and put the country in prayer each time they recite the National Anthem.
Also, the Director, Vocational Skills Development (VSD) of NDE, Mr Isa Abdu, said the programme was not only to ensure that the participants are self-employed but to ensure that they become equipped in life.
The one-month training would focus on cosmetology, decoration, bead making, hairdressing and catering. Ten persons each would be trained in five skill areas.
