NCS, Army strengthen security relationship with Benin Republic

Kebbi: Customs, Army strengthen bilateral relationship with Beninese Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS) Kebbi State Area Command and Nigerian Army have strengthened bilateral relationship with Benin Republic Customs to ensure proper security along border areas.

    Acting Public Relations Officer (PRO), NCS, Kebbi Area Command,ASC Mubarak Mustapha, confirmed this in a statement,saying that,” in its continued effort to ensure the safety of officer’s lives, properties, and government assets along the Maje border corridor, officers of the Kebbi Area Command paid a  visit to Tsamiya/Sebgana on Wednesday, November 12,2025.

“The delegation, led by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, alongside Major Shola Elijah Moses, Commanding Officer, 1 Battalion, Nigerian Army, was warmly received by officers of the Beninese Customs, Kebbi Command personnel, and other key stakeholders upon arrival.

   “In his remarks, Comptroller Ibrahim emphasized the importance of synergy and collaboration between security agencies of both countries to effectively secure the shared border and enhance mutual trust.

   “He further noted that security is a collective responsibility, stressing that his visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation and promoting intelligence sharing for improved border management.”

Mustapha also noted that , in his response, the Comptroller of Customs, Wara Border, Benin Republic, Arouna Dramane, commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome development. He conducted the visiting delegation around their facilities for familiarization and assured continued collaboration.

  “The visit concluded with an exchange of goodwill and a reaffirmation of the commitment by both parties to work together in ensuring peace and security along the Nigeria–Benin border”, he said.

Mustapha also disclosed that Comptroller of Kebbi Area Command, Mahmoud Ibrahim,  visited  Maje town where he offered prayers for the deceased and urged  vigilante among officers

    “Following the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday, 8th November 2025, the Customs Area Controller, Kebbi Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, visited the scene of the attack where the service lost Deputy Superintendent of Customs Sadiq Tahir Muhammad to the cold hands of death at the Maje axis in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

    “The visit, which took place on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, was graced by the Commanding Officer, 1 Battalion Nigerian Army, Major Shola Elijah Moses, the Village Head (Wakilin Maje), representatives of sister agencies, officers stationed in the area, and members of the community.

  “ In his address, Matawalle commiserated with the officers and men of the command as well as members of the community over the tragic incident. He prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased”.

    He added that, the Comptroller urged officers to synergize with sister security agencies and to continue maintaining cordial relationships with their host communities.
