NCPWD reaffirms commitments to inclusiveness

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities,Ayuba Gufwan has reaffirmed it’s commitment to inclusive policies amongst all disabilities in line with present administration’s Renewed Hope policies.
The ES made this commitment in Abuja at a three day retreat organised by the Voice of Disability Initiative for a 5 years strategic Review meeting.
Speaking through, Lawrence Idemudia Edelifo, the Acting Director of the Commission, said the review of the strategic policies is essential to the actualization of the needs of the PWDs.
“This programme is very important because if you don’t have strategy plans you won’t have a direction. Now that they are trying to review it meet the needs of persons with disabilities.
We in the commission we have a that we call women and gender unit,so women with issues are directed to them and we work collectively to see that those challenges were resolved and make sure that no one to left on attended to.
We have invited experts here to review the access the existing plan, make contributions on how the needs of persons with disabilities will be met.
He appreciated the contributions of the group in making sure that the challenges of PWDs is being addressed.

Earlier in her remarks,Edeh Catherine Chinyere,the Executive Director VDI,said PWDs need assistance of experts to make sure that there are all included in policies making.
“This a three day strategy plan review retreat, we all came here ranging from the staff, board of trustees, government bodies and others to review our strategic plan, identify where there are issues,criticise our activities,make recommendations for a broader perspective work.
Nigeria today is changing, disabilities inclusion is gaining momentum and because of that we need informed minds that will work together to help us identify how to capture it all so that our work will be encompassing and will not leave anyone behind
Also speaking a member of the board of trustees,Mazi Chijioke Nwafor said the the retreat is geared towards achieving total inclusiveness.
“We hope to achieve inclusiveness at the end of the review. The PWDs really want to be included in the society. We need to have them in mind while building public structures. All they want is to be included in the society and that was we are aimed at achieving.
