The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in partnership with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, has commenced a 12-month technical training programme for 60 Nigerians to bridge critical skills gaps in the oil and gas industry.
The programme, being held at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited, Osogbo, Osun State, will equip participants with specialised engineering and industrial skills to improve their employability and strengthen local capacity across the oil and gas value chain.
The initiative is being implemented under the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC HCD) Training Programme for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited’s EPU Phase 2 Gas Development Project.
The curriculum covers engineering design, fitter machining, conventional machine tool operations, programming, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), electrical and mechanical maintenance, and document control. The 12-month programme comprises six months of classroom instruction and another six months of supervised on-the-job training in reputable companies. Participants are expected to obtain internationally recognised certifications upon completion. Speaking at the official launch, NCDMB’s Director of Capacity Building, Engr. Abayomi Bamidele, said the initiative was designed to address manpower shortages and prepare more Nigerians for meaningful participation in the oil and gas industry.
Bamidele, who was represented by the Assistant Manager, Human Capacity Development, Mr Tare Bufazi, said the 60 beneficiaries comprised 33 graduates and 27 vocational trainees.
He said the Board’s mandate went beyond promoting local participation to developing the technical expertise required to sustain the industry and advance Nigeria’s industrialisation drive.
According to him, human capacity development remains central to strengthening local content, expanding employment opportunities and building the technical workforce required by the oil and gas sector.
He urged the trainees to demonstrate discipline and commitment throughout the programme, stressing that the opportunity offered more than academic qualifications, as it would provide practical competence and professional experience needed for long-term careers.
