The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on Thursday, organised a nationwide forum to promote
entrepreneurs, tech startups as well as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Information Communications Technology Industry (ICT)
Speaking at the event on Thursday in Abuja, Engr. Ubale Maska, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services at NCC, Engr. said the forum was one of the ways the Commission was demonstrating its crucial role in the nation’s digital economy drive.
Maska, who was represented by Head, New Media and Information Security, Dr Chidi Diugwu, noted that it was critical to provide a conducive environment for startups and SMEs to thrive in order to achieve the robust digital economic ambitions of the nation.
Accordinging to him, “NCC has played a pivotal role in
cultivating an environment conducive to start-ups and innovative hubs. This persistent endeavors and commitment to the promotion of a digital economy have
set the stage for a transformative era of innovation and entrepreneurship.” he said
“This programme, represents a significant stride forward, as it presents a platform for start-ups to translate their innovative concepts into tangible reality. It also presents an invaluable opportunity for entrepreneurs to
acquire knowledge, expand their enterprises, and contribute meaningfully to the
advancement of our nation.”
“We find ourselves on the cusp of a new era, one in which SMEs and start-ups assume
a leading role in propelling our economy forward, generating employment opportunities, and shaping the trajectory of our collective future.” he added
He added that the stakeholders engagement would be a continues thing as the Commission intends to bring in other regulators such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with time.
Ag. Director, E-Government and Regulation, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mr. Ben Ewah, while presenting the keynote address, said that SMEs and startups in Nigeria, often grapple with resource limitations, regulatory hurdles, and the daunting task of keeping pace with technological advancements.
He however, noted that it was important to equip them with the necessary skills to navigate these hurdles, stating that “With great potential comes great challenges. But within these challenges lie immense opportunities”
