The Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, has warned domestic airlines against informing passengers that ticket refunds take up to four weeks, describing such practice as a violation of existing regulations.

Achimugu, in a post on his official X handle on Monday, October 13, reminded airline operators that Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023 stipulates a 14-day timeframe for processing passenger refunds, not four weeks as some airlines claim.

According to him, the NCAA’s regulations remain in force, and operators cannot create parallel rules contrary to the Authority’s directives.

“Domestic airlines need to stop telling passengers that their refund process takes four weeks.

“The NCAA regulations are clear about the timeframe for ticket refunds, and it is 14 days.

“Operators cannot create a different rule in this regard,” Achimugu wrote.

He urged passengers to report any airline that violates this provision by forwarding the communication to the NCAA for prompt action.

Achimugu further threatened that the Authority would no longer tolerate actions that undermine its regulations or subject passengers to unfair treatment.
