The Acting Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has stated that procurement practices must eliminate waste, curb corruption, and ensure value for money to increase government revenue and improve service delivery.

Najomo, who was represented by the NCAA Director, Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Godwin Balang, said this at a symposium on ‘Understanding the Procurement Process for Optimum Organisational Performance’, held on Thursday in Lagos.

He said in aviation, decisions on procurement impact airport infrastructure, air navigation services, safety regulations, and operational efficiency; therefore, very strict compliance with due process can reduce financial leakages and attract credible investors. He said cost-effective contracts will maximise public funds and drive sector growth.

He said that in aviation, decisions on procurement significantly impact airport infrastructure, air navigation services, safety regulations, and operational efficiency. Therefore, there must be strict adherence to due process to minimise financial leakages, attract credible investors, and drive growth in the sector.

“Public procurement is at the core of government efficiency and fiscal responsibility. In the aviation sector, procurement decisions affect airport infrastructure, air navigation services, safety regulations, and operational efficiency. If done right, procurement can attract investment, enhance aviation service delivery, and maximise revenue for the nation.

“The industry must embrace a procurement system that reduces financial leakages through strict compliance with due process. It should encourage competition, attract credible investors, and ensure cost-effective contracts that maximise public funds for aviation development. Strengthening public-private partnerships will also drive efficiency and boost revenue generation,” he said.
