Nigeria will have a formidable presence at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after 34 athletes secured qualification for the prestigious collegiate showpiece scheduled for June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Led by defending men’s 400m champion Samuel Ogazi and national 100m record holder Kanyinsola Ajayi, the Nigerian contingent will be aiming for podium finishes across a wide range of track and field events.

Also attracting attention is Kanyinsola Ajayi, who heads into the championships in outstanding form after recently setting a new Nigerian national record in the men’s 100 metres. Ajayi will be aiming to translate that momentum into his first NCAA outdoor title.

In the men’s 200 metres, Israel Okon enters the competition as the top qualifier and is widely regarded as one of the favourites to claim gold.

On the women’s side, high jumper Temitope Adeshina will be looking to improve on her bronze-medal finish from her freshman season. Having established herself as one of the leading contenders in the event, Adeshina will be chasing her maiden NCAA outdoor championship title in Eugene.

With Nigerian athletes strongly represented across the sprints, relays, jumps and throws, the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships promise to provide another major platform for the country’s emerging talents to shine on the collegiate stage.
