The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has disclosed plans to organise wheelchair table tennis competition for lawyers living disabilities.
The competition would be part of activities for this year’s Annual General Conference (AGC) of the association billed for August 25 to September I in Abuja.
Alternate chairman of the conference planning committee, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, disclosed this in Asaba, Delta State.
Okusanya spoke on the sidelines of the maiden edition of the Nigeria Bar Association Lawyers With Disabilities Forum (NBA-LWDF) stakeholders’ summit on disability inclusion.
She said this year’s conference planning committee was set up deliberately and intentionally to include lawyers with disabilities as members to accommodate their peculiar interests.
“The committee is determined to include sports exclusively for persons living with disability. We wanted to do para-soccer, but unfortunately, we were unable to form two teams.
“So they came up with the idea of wheelchair table tennis. I am very excited that this year, for the first time, we are going to have a wheelchair table tennis competition at the AGC.
“And it has already been very well subscribed to, we have both male and female lawyers subscribing to the competition, and we are looking forward to seeing who the winners will be,” she said.
