Urges officers to align reports with vision of Naval Chief

The Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Captain A. Folorunsho, has charged Information Officers to strengthen their media and public relations capacity while ensuring that all information outputs reflect the Command Philosophy, Vision and Mission of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS).
Folorunsho gave the charge on September 7, 2026, during a meeting with Information Officers at Aduwo Hall, Naval Headquarters, Abuja.
He commended the officers for their dedication and professionalism in projecting the activities, operations and achievements of the Nigerian Navy, urging them to sustain the commitment.
The Director of Information stressed the need for Information Officers to continuously improve their communication skills and strengthen relationships with media practitioners to ensure effective dissemination of information about the Service.
He particularly urged the officers to sharpen their public speaking skills and improve the quality of photographs and other visual materials used in their media outputs.
According to him, the use of quality cameras would enhance the production of compelling images capable of effectively communicating the activities and achievements of the Nigerian Navy.
Folorunsho also directed Information Officers to train ratings on the effective use of cameras and drones, noting that building internal technical capacity would improve the Service’s ability to document operations and activities.

He further emphasised the importance of proper documentation and archiving of media materials.
The DINFO advised officers to acquire and properly label SSD drives for storing media files, stressing that effective record-keeping was essential for preserving the Navy’s operational memory and strengthening accountability.
He also directed Information Officers to forward their media plans to the Directorate of Information at least 24 hours before any planned visit by the Chief of the Naval Staff to their respective commands.
He said advance submission of the plans would enable the Directorate to coordinate media activities and ensure effective coverage of the CNS’s engagements.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for Information Officers to share observations, challenges and recommendations concerning information management and media operations within their respective commands.
Folorunsho responded to the issues raised, offering guidance and recommendations aimed at improving the effectiveness of the Navy’s information management and public relations activities.
The meeting underscored the importance of strategic communication, professional media engagement and effective documentation in projecting the Nigerian Navy’s operations and achievements to the public.
