The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has carried out a raid on a suspected criminals’ hideout in Apapa, Lagos State, and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs.
The operation, Daily Sun learnt targeted an area known as Gidan Drama at Agbo Malu area of Apapa, following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug peddlers in the location.
According to a statement by the Base Information Officer, Lieutenant Hussaini Ibrahim, the coordinated raid resulted in the dislodgement of criminal elements operating from the hideout. Items recovered during the operation include cannabis sativa, codeine and other banned substances.
The Navy noted that the operation underscores its determination to rid its areas of all forms of criminality, particularly the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs.

“This operation highlights the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Navy to combat all criminal activities within our areas of operation, including anti-illegal drug enforcement, in order to curb the spread of illicit substances,” the statement said.
Following the successful raid, the recovered items were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Rear Admiral Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, represented by the Executive Officer, Navy Captain Idongesit Udoessien, presented the seized drugs to the Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Festac Area Command of the NDLEA, Mr. Azu Charles, on Monday, 2 February 2026.
The NDLEA official commended the Nigerian Navy for its continued collaboration in the fight against drug trafficking and assured that the agency would take necessary steps to ensure those behind the criminal activities are brought to justice.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its resolve to sustain joint operations with other security agencies to maintain law and order and ensure a safer maritime environment.
