Navy inaugurates new jetty to boost maritime security in A/ Ibom

Eastern Naval command in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom state has commissioned new jetty to tackle maritime security challenges within Nigeria  waterways in Akwa Ibom state . 

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at Uta Ewa in Ikot Abasi , the  Flag Officer Commanding , Eastern Naval Command,  Rear Admiral Chidozie Donald Okehie  said the location of the jetty was strategic to check security situation along the coastal communities

Okehie  said it  was part of his  familiarization visit to units under his command.

Okehie  was received by the Commander (NNS) Jubilee,Ikot Abasi, Commodore Abubakar Umar, who  briefed  on the base’s operational activities.

The Eastern  Commander highlighted  critical role of the new jetty  in strengthening the Navy’s operational reach.

“This jetty is essential for maintaining a permanent naval presence in this coastal area

“It will enable our personnel to give prompt responses to security threats, enhance our surveillance capabilities, and ensure the safety of sea lines of communication.”

He said the  project which was facilitated  by  Nigerian Navy Ship, (NNS) Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, aligns with the broader vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, for a modern and professional naval force.

“The vision prioritizes improving operational capacity, enhancing personnel welfare, and engaging in civil-military cooperation to safeguard the nation’s maritime interests.”

He conducted  inspection of other key facilities, including the Helms Jetty and formally commissioned a newly constructed welfare shop for the personnel.

He  held an interactive session with the base’s staff and assured them of the Command’s continued support to enhance their operational effectiveness.
