From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State under the leadership of Associate Professor Joseph Ugboaja as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) once again at the weekend demonstrated its steadfastness in carrying out its social responsibility function within the host community.
This was executed on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the priesthood Papal Nuncio to the Czech Republic, Archbishop Jude Okolo celebrated at St Cletus Catholic Church, Otolo Nnewi which was heavily attended by College of Archbishops, Bishops; Governor Charles Soludo, other government officials and people from all walks of life.
The medical team comprised medical doctors, nurses and laboratory personnel led by Mrs Egbulonu Chioma from the Department of Accident and Emergency. She said the team was there on invitation to provide necessary healthcare services at the event.
She noted that so many people had lost their lives on occasions like that which was the reason the hospital did not hesitate to register its presence in case of any eventuality and also for routine medical examinations of the people who attended the occasion, if anybody so wished.
Mrs Egbulonu disclosed that doctors, nurses and an ambulance were all readily available to take care of any number of persons who needed healthcare services.
Services at the free medical outreach, according to her, included blood pressure and sugar level examinations.
Mrs Egbulonu advised that people should check their BP status and sugar level at all times as that could cause other health complications if not properly checked and controlled.
She described BP as a silent killer which she said must be controlled by constant medical checks and regular exercise to burn out fats and sugar from the body system.
She noted that the team was prepared for any emergency with adequate drugs as first aid before taking the patient to the hospital if the case could not be handled outdoors.
She appreciated the efforts of the CMD, Ass. Prof Ugbaja in his firm resolves without looking back in execution, to make NAUTH one of the best teaching hospitals in Nigeria and the West Africa sub-region.
She said this has been clearly demonstrated with massive infrastructure at the permanent site and state-of-the-art equipment already at work at various departments of the hospital to provide adequate healthcare services for the people.
