The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State Thursday had a facility tour of Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital (DIOMH), Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area to have a firsthand assessment of the private hospital with major specialty in heart surgeries and other specialized areas.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the NAUTH, Associate Professor Joseph Ugboaja who led the management team said the visit was to identify areas for collaboration and partnership with the hospital for greater healthcare delivery to the people. The Chief Medical Director emphasized that Partnerships and collaborations are key pillars in the strategic and development plan of his administration.
He commended the initiative of the founder of the hospital, Sir Emeka Okwuosa in bringing down the health facility to his home town in line with think-home-philosophy. He noted that collaborative efforts between the two hospitals would bring about comparative advantage.
Ugboaja reaffirmed his resolve to re-position the NAUTH to be reckoned with and considered among the best five teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond to curtail or reverse medical tourism abroad.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director of DIOMH, Dr Chima Nwagboso who took the visiting NAUTH management round the hospital facilities named some of the state-of-the-art medical equipment in the hospital to include 64-slice CT scan; the latest Cath lab; 4D Ultrasound scan machine; and ICU Machine with ventilators.
He took his time to explain all the machines and also disclosed that the hospital produced its own medical gas, contributing to the sustainability of the project.
He said that the phase II of the hospital project launched in 2023 with the creation of a primary healthcare centre built out of repurposed shipping containers.
Responding, the Executive Director of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, Chidimma Okoye commended Ass. Prof Ugboaja for his relentless achievements at the NAUTH in a short space of time and expressed delight for cooperation between the two hospitals.
Members of the entourage from the NAUTH who accompanied the CMD were the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr Ogochukwu Oguejiofor; the Head, Corporate Affairs, NAUTH, Mr Chinyere Onwuka; Chief of Staff to the CMD, Mr Jackson Njoku, among others.
The management team, thereafter visited the permanent site of the NAUTH where the CMD inspected ongoing massive building constructions and other infrastructure. He warned the workers on site to deliver on record time.
