Native doctor flees as police arrest robbery leader, recover guns in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State Police Command  has arrested a robbery  gang leader, Akan Udo  in a native doctor’s house, while the native doctor escaped in  Ikot Ineme village ,  Essien  Udim Local Government of the state.

According to the statement signed by Akwa Ibom state Police Public Relations Officer ( PPRO) DSP Timfon John,he said the robbery leader was arrested in the native doctor’s house while receiving  treatment for an undisclosed ailments.

John said arrest of the gang leader led to further apprehension of other suspected gang members .

She said that other gang members arrested were Namso Monday from Ikot Umo Essien,Odoro Ikot and Mbata Udo of Ikot Ukpong Offiong villages respectively.

The statement reads in parts: “On Friday, November 7, 2025,  police operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended two suspects at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village.

“The suspects: Akan  Udo ,40 , of Ikot Edem Udo Village, Namso Monday ,20 ,  Ikot Umo Essien Odoro, Ikot Village, they  were arrested while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments.

“The native doctor, who is suspected of aiding the criminal gang is currently at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

“During the subsequent investigation, a third suspect was identified and arrested in connection with the same armed robbery incident”.

John said items recovered during the operation include locally made Pistol, locally Made Revolver Pistol, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two big generators, Battle Axe among other dangerous weapons.

“Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon completion’.

John the state Commissioner  of Police Baba Azare has commended the officers for their diligence in discharging their duties.

“The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare  commends the officers for their diligence and reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to rooting out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of all residents.”
