Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes has revealed what he discussed with Cristiano Ronaldo following the forward’s reported disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.
Ronaldo left the Portugal camp ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark after Jesus left him on the bench for the team’s previous match.
Following Ronaldo’s departure, Fernandes was handed the captain’s armband for the Denmark fixture.
The Manchester United star has now publicly addressed the issue.
“I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo and told him that he is and will always remain the greatest icon of our national team and our country.
“Our national team is united, not divided.
“Matters must be resolved internally and conclude well for both parties.”
