The people of Mbaise have concluded plans to host members of the global community with a view to showcase the annual national cultural festival known as “IRIJI MBAISE 2026”.
In line with the traditional role of the apex socio-cultural organisation, Ezuruezu Mbaise, led by Surv. Joe Ogbonna Anosike, will host the Mbaise decision making body, also known as “Mbaise Governing Council”, today, at the Ezuruezu Mbaise Civic Centre.
The Governing Council meeting will, as usual, afford all Mbaise sons and daughters the opportunity to be on the same page prior to the elaborate ceremony of the well publicised Iri Ji Mbaise 2026, to be held tomorrow.
The Central Planning Committee handling the 2026 Iri Ji Mbaise National Cultural Festival reaffirmed its commitment to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Mbaise people by officially outlining activities for this year’s event.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Chief Steve Onu, described Iri Ji Mbaise as an annual thanksgiving to God for a bountiful harvest and for safeguarding the lives of the people of Mbaise over the years. Chief Onu pointed out that the festival has expanded from a mere cultural event to a major tourist and corporate organisations’ event.
He stated that this year’s edition will showcase the rich traditions, values, hospitality, and cultural identity of the Mbaise people, adding that the celebration would include vibrant cultural displays, traditional dances, yam exhibitions and Mbaise Kitchen (Usekwu Mbaise).
The activities, as enumerated by organisers, are aimed at promoting unity, peace, cultural heritage, tourism, and investment opportunities in Mbaise land.
The Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee for 2026 IRIJI Mbaise, Pastor Christian Nwokocha, said that
the festival remains a symbol of identity, unity of the people of Mbaise, and in line with the dictates of Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers who are the custodians of culture and tradition in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Abia State Governor, Alex Oti, Hon. Minister for Art, Culture and Tourism, Hannatu Musa Masawa, and other nationals from other countries who indicated their willingness to participate in this year’s IRIJI Mbaise will be present.
