Natasha: Court set to rule on Akpabio’s contempt claims

Akpabio and Senator Natasha

On Tuesday, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja for the hearing of the claim by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, that she recently flouted the court order.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Justice Binta Nyako fixed Tuesday for the hearing of the contempt claim by Akpabio against Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Nyako said she would also hear the earlier contempt charge filed by Natasha against Akpabio, the Senate and others over allegations of disobedience to an earlier court order.

Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio have been at loggerheads since the former accused the Senate President of sexual harassment.

The Kogi senator thereafter sought an order from the Federal High Court to restrain the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from investigating her.

After the submission of her ex parte application, an order was issued by the court restraining the Senate from commencing disciplinary proceedings against her.

Despite the court order, Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended by the Senate on March 6 for alleged gross misconduct.
