The National Assembly has postponed its resumption of plenary session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to enable committees conclude ongoing defence of the 2026 budget by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

In a notice issued on Monday and signed by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, Esq., plenary in both the Senate and House of Representatives will now reconvene on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

The notice explained that the adjustment became necessary to give legislative committees adequate time to wrap up outstanding budget defence sessions, which form a critical stage in the scrutiny and eventual passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

“This postponement is to enable Committees of the Assembly to conclude ongoing budget defence sessions,” the statement said.

It added that Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members were requested to take note of the new date and time, while the leadership of the National Assembly regretted any inconvenience the postponement might have caused.

The extension is expected to allow committees finalise engagements with MDAs, reconcile submissions, and firm up their reports ahead of the resumption of plenary for consideration of the budget estimates.
