The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to rural communities in Abia State to boost grassroots enterprise through clean technology.

Speaking during the launch at Uma Ukpai Memorial Primary School in Asaga, Ohafia, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman, Mr. Khalil Halilu, stated that the initiative aims to move science and engineering out of laboratories and directly into the hands of ordinary Nigerians to drive job creation and local innovation.  He noted that Abia was strategically chosen due to its vibrant entrepreneurial culture.

Halilu explained that NASENI’s agenda, anchored on creation, collaboration, and commercialisation, would be measured by tangible outcomes, such as businesses strengthened and jobs supported. Also speaking, Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr Armstrong Takang, commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alex Otti for prioritising infrastructure.

Takang disclosed that he facilitated engagements to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and electric vehicles to Umuahia soon, alongside establishing a digital facility in Asaga.  Also, Director-General of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), Obinna Odum, pledged full collaboration to scale the programme across Abia’s 17 local government areas.
