Nasarawa Utd sweep El-Kanemi 3–0, extend lead on NPFL table

Nasarawa United outclass Katsina, claim top of the NPFL table

Nasarawa United on Sunday extended lead at the top of the 2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table to 27 points after thrashing El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3–0 at the Lafia City Stadium.

A brace from in-form forward Anas Yusuf in the 38th and 46th minutes his first from the penalty spot put the Solid Miners firmly in control, before Garba Mohammed added a third just two minutes later to seal a dominant display.

Head Coach of Nasarawa United, Mangut Mbwas Ayuba, praised his players for their consistency and discipline, noting that the performance reflected the team’s determination to maintain their top position on the log.

Former Nasarawa United coach and current El-Kanemi handler, Kabir Dogo, congratulated the Solid Miners despite the defeat, attributing the three goals to avoidable defensive errors. “The goals came from a defensive error committed by one of our best players, but that is football,” Dogo admitted.

He also commended the progress of his former team and the development of players he once nurtured. “Some of the boys I gave their NPFL debut are still here. I’m happy seeing how far they have grown,” he said.

Dogo highlighted logistics as a major obstacle for his side this season. “The league is still very open, but traveling has been our main challenge,” he added.

Man of the Match and two-goal hero Anas Yusuf expressed joy over his performance and appreciation for the club’s supporters. “I am very happy scoring a brace today. The fans made me feel on top of the world. I want them to keep supporting us,” he said.

Speaking on missing an expected move abroad despite finishing among last season’s top scorers, Anas said he remains undeterred and fully committed to the Lafia side. “I was not discouraged at all. I am happy here. My focus is on helping Nasarawa United win matches, and I will keep doing my best,” he stated.

With the victory, Nasarawa United tighten its grip on the summit of the NPFL table as it continues the quest for a strong league finish.
