Nasarawa United Football Club continued their impressive run in the ongoing 2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with a 2–1 victory over Remo Stars in Matchday 10 at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.
The thrilling encounter saw the visitors take an early lead in the 5th minute through Michael Ibeh, who capitalised on a defensive lapse to put Remo Stars ahead. However, the Solid Miners responded strongly, with John Joshua restoring parity in the 31st minute after a well-coordinated team move.
The decisive moment came in the 79th minute when Jofrank Istifanus fired home the winner to seal all three points for the hosts, sending the home crowd into wild celebration.
With the win, Nasarawa United now sit atop the NPFL table with 22 points, continuing their impressive home form. The team registered 60 per cent ball possession, eight shots on target, and five corners, compared to Remo Stars’ 40 per cent possession and two shots on target.
Reacting after the game, Nasarawa United Head Coach, Mangut Mbwas Ayuba, praised his players for their determination and teamwork.
“It was a tough match, but the boys showed great character, especially after conceding early. We kept our focus, played to our strength, and got the result we wanted,” the coach said.

He added that the team’s current form reflects their collective effort and the management’s support. “We’re not getting carried away. The season is still long, but this result motivates us to keep pushing harder,” he added.
A delighted Jofrank Istifanus, who scored the winning goal, also expressed his joy, saying: “I’m happy to help the team with this important goal. The fans have been amazing, and we’ll keep working hard to maintain our position at the top.”
Being his first goal and his first experience in the NPFL, noting that he is happy with the experience coming from the military barracks but believed he will get more goals, adding that he has been looking forward to that and it happened today, while promising to score more goals.
Remo Stars’ assistant head coach, Suleiman Kamir, meanwhile, acknowledged Nasarawa United’s resilience and called for improvements from his side. “We started well but lost concentration in the second half. Credit to Nasarawa United—they deserved the win,” he stated.
The Solid Miners will look to extend their lead when they travel for their next fixture in Matchday 11 of the NPFL.
