In a bid to turn their fortunes around in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nasarawa United FC has on Wednesday announced the signing of eight high-profile players ahead of the second stanza of the 2024/25 season.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Lafia City Stadium where Club Chairman, Solomon Babanjah, described the move as a major statement of intent to reposition the club.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome these exceptional players to Nasarawa United FC,” Babanjah said. “This is a major statement of intent from the club, and we are confident that these signings will help us achieve our goals in the second stanza of the NPFL campaign.”
The new signings include: Benson Abbey (Central Defender) from Shooting Stars Sports Club, Peace Dewan (Left Back) from Sunshine Stars, Abubakar Aliyu (Attacking Midfielder) from Shooting Stars Sports Club, Solomon Chigozie (Central Midfielder) from Kwara United.
Others include, Peter Eneji (Winger) from Busaiteen FC of Bahrain, Ugochukwu Leonard (Centre Forward) from Heartland FC, Benjamin Jack (Winger) from Golden Boot FC of Benin Republic and Onyema Emmanuel (Winger) from Ikorodu City FC.
The chairman expressed optimism about the impact of the new additions, acknowledging the team’s challenging position on the league table.
“Our situation in the league is somehow precarious, but with the acquisition of these top-class players, we are in the right position to turn things around and return the team to where we rightly belong, which is the summit of the league,” he stated.

Babanjah extended his gratitude to key stakeholders, including Governor Abdullahi Sule, Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the State Football Association, for their continuous support.
“God willing, we will make everyone happy this second and final half of the season,” he assured.
The Solid Miners’ Technical Director, Kabir Dogo, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the boost the new players would bring to the team.
“We are so excited to see the impact these new signings will have on our squad,” Dogo said. “We are confident that they will help us to compete at the highest level and bring success to the club.”
Dogo also appealed to supporters, acknowledging their unwavering patience and promising better performances.
“We thank our supporters and fans for all their patience with us, but we hope to reward their patience with positive results, God willing,” he added.
The Solid Miners are scheduled to face Katsina United in their first match of the second stanza on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Lafia City Stadium. Kickoff is at 4 PM.
