The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, popularly known as Zomo, along with five other suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, August 24, 2025, said Bammi was captured by operatives of the Doma Division during a clearance operation at Doka forest.

According to Nansel, the suspect, who had narrowly escaped arrest last month when some of his gang members were apprehended, ran out of luck after he was sighted by eagle-eyed operatives.

“In a desperate attempt to escape, he pulled a knife to attack our men but was swiftly overpowered and arrested,” the PPRO stated.

He explained that during interrogation, the suspect led detectives to their hideout at Alagye village in Doma Local Government Area, where dangerous exhibits were recovered.

Items recovered include one pump-action rifle, one locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two live rounds of ammunition, five cartridges, a knife, a rope, two Tecno handsets, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.

In a separate operation, Nansel disclosed that undercover operatives attached to Awe Area Command stormed Gidan Taku village, Wuse Chiefdom, Awe LGA, and arrested five suspected members of a 10-man kidnapping syndicate.

The suspects were identified as Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde, a.k.a. Okocha.

“Investigations revealed that the syndicate masterminded the kidnapping of one Blessing John of Gidan Makaranta village, Wuse. Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live round of ammunition were recovered from them,” Nansel said.

Further findings, according to the PPRO, showed that the gang had earlier abducted the victim’s husband, John Ada Kuje, in April this year, and collected ransom before releasing him.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has commended the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism.

He assured that the command will sustain the tempo until the state is completely rid of kidnappers and armed robbers.

“All arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution,” he added.
