Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule yesterday commissioned the remodelled Akwanga Youth Centre and phase two township road in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
The projects were commissioned along with the former Governor of Bauchi State, Alh. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, performing the ceremony.
The Youth Centre was named after Elder Suleiman Jakonda, a prominent Mada son, while the road project was named after Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabiu, mother of the former Governor of Bauchi State.
Governor Sule said the projects were named after the individuals in respect of their immense contributions to Akwanga Local Government Area and Mada land.
Sule however, urged young people to take advantage of the facility to launch their way to the top.The township road will provide access to the facility and adjoining locations.
The Governor also distributed free fertilizers to poor farmers in Akwanga Local Government, courtesy of the Federal Government.
Former Governor Mu’azu praised Governor Sule for his humility, accountability, transparency, capacity, and capability, saying he was proud to associate with him.
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, appreciated the Governor for prioritizing youth development and programmes.
Jafaru said the Akwanga Youth Centre was constructed in 1978 and last renovated in 1998. The remodelled facility now boasts a large multi-purpose hall, accommodation rooms, operational offices, restaurant, and alternative power generating set.
Other speakers at the ceremony included the outgoing Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Her Excellency, Joanna Tarnawska, and the Chun Mada, Pastor Samson Gamu Yare.
Dignitaries present at the commissioning ceremony included former Governor of old Plateau State, Colonel Habibu Shuaibu, and the Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government, Barr. Muhammad Aliyu-Ubandoma.
Sun reports that the Nasarawa State Government contracted the Akwanga Youth Centre to indigenous company, Kreaco Engineering Nigeria Limited, on 26th April, 2023, at a cost of N187,676,106.00.
