In a move towards the advancement of Nasarawa State, the state executive council, under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, has given the green light to various transformative projects totaling over twenty billion naira. These initiatives encompass both urban and rural renewal endeavors aimed at propelling the state’s economy forward.
According to Hon. Ibrahim Uthman Angbolo, the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation yesterday after the council meeting stated that the council’s deliberations centered on pivotal issues vital to the state’s progress, culminating in the endorsement of projects spanning diverse sectors.
Hon. Mu’azu Gosho, the State Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, provided a comprehensive breakdown of the approved projects. Notable among them is the commencement of construction on an underpass and flyover in Lafia township, slated at a significant sum of N16.6 billion.
Furthermore, the council approved the construction of essential link roads within Lafia metropolis, amounting to N2.3 billion, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing mobility within the city.
In a bid to revitalize the headquarters of the state’s three senatorial zones, the council sanctioned the urban renewal of Akwanga, headquarters of the Nasarawa North senatorial district. This initiative includes the construction and dualization of key roads, with an allocated budget of N7.91 billion.
Additionally, the council endorsed the construction of a link road connecting the ongoing Kwandere-Keffi Road with neighbouring communities, signaling a commitment to infrastructural connectivity across the state.
Recognizing the importance of a conducive working environment for civil servants, the government approved contracts for the construction of a new government secretariat. With Phase Two of the project now underway, valued at N6.8 billion, efforts to accommodate more ministries and enhance administrative efficiency are underway.
Moreover, the council greenlit the design of the entire secretariat complex, further underscoring its commitment to modernizing infrastructure and improving service delivery.
In a notable development, Nasarawa State’s upgrade from tier one to tier two under the ACReSAL Project positions the state to receive a commendable ten million dollars, acknowledging its exemplary performance under the scheme.
Governor Sule’s approval of three hundred million naira as counterpart fund for the European Investment Bank (EIB) project underscores the state’s determination to uphold its developmental commitments, particularly in completing previous projects under the defunct NewMap initiative.
Meanwhile, Nasarawa State Head of Service, Abigail Waya, affirmed the government’s dedication to the welfare of civil servants, pledging to engage in negotiations with organized labour to ensure a sustainable implementation of the new minimum wage.
