Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has called for calm among his supporters and citizens as the Court of Appeal is set to hear his appeal challenging the recent gubernatorial election petition tribunal’s ruling in favor of David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing an expanded security meeting at the Government House on Monday, Governor Sule commended the people of Nasarawa State and the political leaders for their maturity during and after the tribunal judgment. However, he emphasized the need for additional restraint leading up to the Appeal Court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

“I want to thank you sincerely for the maturity some have shown during that period. I also call on the good people of Nasarawa State and our leaders, including security agencies, to continue to show that wisdom, especially with the hearing on the 15th and the subsequent judgment,” Governor Sule stated.

The meeting also addressed pressing security concerns, particularly the regular attacks on farmers by suspected herders in six local government areas of Nasarawa, namely Nasarawa, Doma, Akwanga, Keana, Obi, and Awe. Governor Sule raised an alarm about the influx of unfamiliar individuals, causing tension in Keffi Local Government Area.

He highlighted criminal hideouts discovered in Karu Local Government Area and the presence of suspected drug peddlers and sleeper cells created by terrorist gangs in Nasarawa, Taraba, and Kaduna.

To tackle the security challenges, Governor Sule expressed willingness to reestablish collaboration with traditional rulers, urging them to engage local vigilante groups as they have done successfully in the past. He commended security agencies for maintaining peace, law, and order during challenging times, as well as their efforts in rescuing kidnapping victims.

Daily Sun gathered that the meeting, attended by heads of tertiary institutions in the state, aimed to address incidents of kidnappings around these educational institutions.

Governor Sule however, acknowledged the crucial role traditional rulers and security groups play in ensuring grassroots security, emphasizing a return to effective engagement with these entities to enhance overall safety in the state.
