Nasarawa community bemoans destruction of farmlands by herdsman

Nasarawa

From Abel Leonard, Lafia

Farmers in Tatara, Angwan Barao community in Kokona Local Government Area of  Nasarawa have called on the state government and security agencies to come to their rescue following the recent invasion and destruction of over 11 farmlands by herdsmen.

Village head of the community, Austin Gyar, made the appeal while speaking with Daily Sun, yesterday, at Garaku in the council area.

Gyar said they were no longer safe in the community, pleading with the state government to help them because they were afraid of what the herdsmen may do next.

“We had meetings with herdsmen residing in the community, but they said they don’t know the people that invaded the farmlands.

“We are not safe; we have asked them to leave the community ,but they refused. What they do is to wait at night or when we are in the church, then they will go and clear the farmlands,” he said.

The village head also asked for the police to ensure justice.

“We want justice. We don’t mind whatever it will take to ensure this people are prosecuted and sent to prison because we are suffering in their hands. As the village head, we took the police to the place, but we don’t understand them anymore because it’s like the police don’t want to do anything.”

He said though the case had been  charged to court by the police, they were  not comfortable with the process.
