Residents of Ombi 2, near the College of Agriculture along P-Sam Hotel Street in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, were thrown into panic on Wednesday night after a group of armed men on motorcycles stormed the area in pursuit of a man believed to be conveying cash for an undisclosed assignment.

According to an eyewitness, the attackers, numbering several, rode into the community at high speed while trailing the unidentified man. “They were many on motorcycles, all armed. From what we gathered, they were chasing one man who was said to be carrying money for an assignment,” the eyewitness said.

The witness further explained that the targeted individual, upon noticing he was being followed, quickly diverted into P-Sam Hotel, parked his vehicle, and escaped through a nearby compound.

“When he realised they were after him, he rushed into the hotel, parked his car and disappeared into another compound. The armed men then began searching everywhere around the area for him,” the eyewitness added.

The commotion drew the attention of residents, who immediately alerted military personnel stationed nearby. Security operatives responded swiftly, leading to an exchange of gunfire. However, the gunmen reportedly fled into the surrounding bushes.

A resident who spoke under anonymity expressed worry over the increasing security threats facing the community. “We are living in fear. This incident has scared everyone. We are appealing to security agencies to intensify patrols and protect us,” the resident said.

At the time of filing this report, security operatives were said to be conducting a search of the surrounding areas to track down the fleeing suspects.
