Nasarawa: APC warns PDP’s Francis Orogu: “Tread with caution or face the law”

  • Explain your temporary relocation to Abuja during tribunal proceedings, APC asks

From Abel Leonard, Lafia

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasarawa State has issued a stern warning to Hon. Francis Orogu, the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following his recent statement that has raised concerns over the security situation in Nasarawa State.

Mr Orogu had been quoted in the media, calling on Governor Sule not to involve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, in Nasarawa politics, insinuated that these visits were designed to influence a favourable judgment at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Lafia.

In a strongly-worded response on Monday in a statement signed by Otaru Douglas, State Publicity Secretary accused Orogu of attempting to sow discord and create security problems within the peaceful state, alleging that the PDP’s main agenda is to cause disharmony in the country.

The APC’s statement highlighted the competence of Governor Engr Abdullahi A Sule, who is credited with significant achievements in both the private and public sectors. The party defended Governor Sule’s record, stating that he had been instrumental in addressing social, economic, and infrastructural challenges inherited from previous PDP administrations.

The APC also criticized Orogu’s misinterpretation of Governor Sule’s visit to the office of the Honourable Minister of FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, emphasised that the visit aimed at enhancing development and strengthening security achievements in Nasarawa State.

Regarding Orogu’s claims of terrorist activities in the state, the APC accused him and his associates of complicity and alleged plans to incite a breakdown of law and order. The statement urged security agencies to deal decisively with anyone undermining the state’s authority.

The APC cautioned the PDP against provocative political behaviour and urged politicians to act responsibly. The statement reaffirmed the APC’s confidence in the forthcoming verdict of the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal, expressing the belief that justice would prevail.

Meanwhile In a press conference held on Sunday at the NUJ Press Centre in Lafia, Comr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Governor Abdullahi A. Sule also addressed the allegations made by the State Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Francis Orogu.

Comr. Ahemba refuted these claims, emphasizing that the Governor’s visits were motivated by a sincere desire to further the state’s development. Notably, the recent visit to the FCT Minister aimed to secure collaboration for a metro line project and the construction of a 13,000-hectare Gurku/Kabusu Mega City, both of which would significantly benefit the state.

Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the Nasarawa State government and relevant individuals and organizations, Ahemba argued that these partnerships have contributed to the state’s progress and development. He called on the opposition to recognize and support such initiatives.

Addressing the PDP’s accusations of tribunal interference, Ahemba challenged Mr Orogu and other PDP leaders to explain their temporary relocation to Abuja during tribunal proceedings and their alleged attempts to overturn Governor Sule’s mandate through unconventional means. He reaffirmed Governor Sule’s confidence in the judiciary’s ability to dispense fair justice.

Regarding security concerns raised by the PDP, Ahemba pointed out that the issue of kidnapping and insecurity was not unique to Nasarawa State and commended Governor Sule’s efforts in restoring peace through effective collaboration with federal authorities and security agencies.

Ahemba stated that the people of Nasarawa State had spoken through the ballot and expressed their support for Governor Sule. He urged the opposition to come to terms with the reality of the situation and emphasized that no amount of false alarms or media propaganda would alter the impending outcome of the tribunal.
