The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area, Hon. Waliat Folasade Adeyemo, to commence remedial work on the Camp Osiele Road in the council.
The ultimatum was conveyed in a Friday statement signed by NAOSS National Senate President, Comrade Olabode Tayo Opeyemi and obtained by Daily Sun.
According to the students’ body, the road has been in “a state of total collapse” for months.
NAOSS further explained that the condition of the road is now “almost impassable,” causing daily hardship for students, residents, traders, and commuters.
The association said accidents, delays, and damage to vehicles have become common on the route.
“We note with disappointment that several appeals and complaints to the office of the Odeda Local Government Chairman have yielded no meaningful action or solution,” the statement reads in part.
NAOSS therefore demanded that the Odeda Local Government Chairman commence immediate remedial work and provide a concrete solution to the road crisis within 72 hours from the time of the release.
The group warned that failure to act within the timeframe would force students to take drastic action.
“Failure to act within 72 hours will leave us with no other option than to mobilize Ogun State students to shut down the road. During this period, nobody will be allowed to pass until urgent steps are taken to fix the road,” it stated.
NAOSS said it does not take pleasure in disrupting public peace, but insisted that “the suffering of the people has gone on for too long.”
“Government exists to serve the people, and we demand that service now,” the statement further reads.
The association also called on the Ogun State Government, security agencies, and all stakeholders to intervene before the situation escalates.
