The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has resumed its nationwide assessment of federal road projects with an inspection tour of roads cutting across Ondo and Edo States.
The NANS President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye , who led a high-powered delegation of the association on Friday, said the team inspected the Owo-Benin Road, the Akure-Owo Road and the Ilesa Road.
In a statement sent to Daily Sun on Saturday, Akinteye explained that the roads are of crucial importance to Nigerian students, particularly those commuting to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and the University of Benin.
According to him, thousands of students ply the routes daily, making their condition a direct concern for students’ welfare, safety and access to education.
He added that the Ilesa Road is also vital to commuters and students travelling within the South-West.
Akinteye said as student leaders, their responsibility goes beyond demanding good roads to assessing ongoing federal projects, acknowledging commendable work and drawing attention to areas that require improvement.
The student body commended the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, for his commitment to road infrastructure development across the country, describing him as an “infrastructure bulldozer.”
NANS also lauded President Bola Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure development and initiatives that address the welfare concerns of Nigerian students.
Akinteye reiterated the association’s commitment to constructive intellectual engagement and accountability in advancing the collective interest of Nigerian students.
