NANS Ogun demands conclusion of OGITECH SUG election

OGITECH

says winner should be declared July 6

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Ogun State Axis, has called on the management of Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) to conclude the Students’ Union Government election and declare the duly elected winners without further delay.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comr.  Faruq Olabode, and Secretary General, Comr.  Ogooluwakitan Ojo, and made available to Daily Sun on Sunday, NANS Ogun JCC said it monitored the SUG election held at OGITECH on Friday and expressed concern that the process was declared inconclusive.

The student body described students’ union elections as “a vital component of democratic governance within our tertiary institutions” and stressed that such processes must reflect fairness, transparency and respect for the students’ mandate.

“We respectfully call on the management of the institution and the Electoral Committee to ensure that the electoral process is concluded without unnecessary delay. The students of OGITECH deserve clarity, certainty and confidence in the democratic process they participated in,” the statement said.

NANS Ogun JCC specifically demanded that “the outcome of the election be transparently concluded on Monday, 6th July 2026 and that the legitimate winner(s), as determined by the lawful votes cast by the students, be declared in accordance with the institution’s electoral guidelines. The sanctity of the ballot must be preserved and every valid vote must count.”

The council commended the Rector of OGITECH, Dr. Abiodun Babatunde Oluseye, for what it described as his strides in promoting academic excellence, institutional development and a peaceful learning environment since assuming office.

It urged him to uphold the same principles in the conclusion of the election.

“We believe that a reputation built on credibility and justice should not be overshadowed by avoidable controversies. We are confident that the Rector will remain true to the principles that have distinguished his administration by allowing the democratic will of the students to prevail,” the statement added.

NANS Ogun JCC also urged OGITECH students to remain calm and law-abiding while awaiting the conclusion of the process on Monday.

“Our position is clear: the democratic will of the students must be respected, the electoral process must be brought to a credible conclusion, and the duly elected leaders must be announced without undue delay,” it said.

The council said it would continue to monitor developments at the institution to protect the rights and democratic interests of students in Ogun State.
