NANS Ogun clears OGITECH over NELFUND refund allegations, urges urgent disbursement

OGITECH NELFUND

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Ogun Joint Campus Council has cleared the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) of allegations of withholding NELFUND payments, saying the institution has no outstanding refund to students.

This was conveyed in a Thursday statement jointly signed by JCC Chairman, Comrade Faruq Olabode and General Secretary, Comrade Ogooluwakitan Ojo.

According to the statement, the clarification followed a fact-finding visit to OGITECH by the JCC leadership led by Olabode on the directive of NANS National President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye.

The visit was prompted by a publication from the NANS President listing institutions alleged to have received NELFUND disbursements without refunding students who had earlier paid school fees.

OGITECH objected to its inclusion on the list.

The Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, described the institution’s inclusion as “inaccurate and capable of misleading the public”.

During the visit, the institution’s NELFUND Desk Officer told the delegation that the last disbursement received was for the 2023/2024 academic session covering 166 beneficiaries, all of whom were verified and refunded.

He disclosed that OGITECH has not received any NELFUND payment for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 sessions.

According to records presented, 307 students applied for 2024/2025 and 390 for 2025/2026 but are yet to receive funds.

Oluseye urged stakeholders to verify information before publication to avoid damaging institutional reputation.

Meanwhile, Olabode commended the NANS National President for his commitment to student welfare, and also applauded the Rector for “exemplary leadership and transparency.”

“Based on the documentary evidence made available and the findings of our investigation, NANS Ogun JCC confirms that OGITECH has no outstanding NELFUND refund owed to students,” the statement said.

The council called on NELFUND to “urgently address this anomaly and ensure prompt disbursement” to the 697 OGITECH students who applied for 2024/2025 and 2025/2026.

The delegation included the Immediate Past Chairman, Comr. Solution; Former Chairman, Comr. Experience; Vice Chairman Special Duties; Vice Chairman Inter-Campus; and other executive members.
