NANS lauds FG, ASUU over agreement to end industrial action

From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Federal Government and leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for reaching a tentative agreement on how to resolve the prolonged industrial action by ASUU.

NANS in a statement jointly signed by its Senate President and Clerk of the Senate, Okunomo Henry Adewumi and Abdul-Yekinn Odunayo respectively, on Friday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, noted that the tentative agreement will pave the way for a harmonious resolution that will favour the students and restore tranquillity to the campuses.

The statement specifically commended the Federal Government for its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and listen to the demands of the student body, describing the decision as a demonstration of laudable commitment to the welfare of the Nigerian students.

NANS equally applauded the leadership of ASUU for its decision to soft-pedal and prioritize the interests of students.

“NANS remains steadfast in its dedication to advocating for the rights and interests of Nigerian students. We will continue to vigilantly monitor the situation, ensuring that the agreement is implemented in the best interest of students, and our education system is restored to its former glory.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all stakeholders, including the media, for their unwavering support and solidarity. Together, we shall revitalize the dignity of our education system and empower the future leaders of our great nation,” the statement submitted.
