The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Ogun State Government and security agencies following the safe rescue of all five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade who were abducted last week.
In a Thursday statement signed by NANS National Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, the student body expressed “profound joy and relief” that the students were rescued alive and unharmed.
Daily Sun recalls that the development came barely a day after NANS issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the state government and security agencies for the rescue of the students.
“We are delighted that the students have been rescued alive and unharmed, bringing an end to the anxiety experienced by their families, colleagues and the entire Nigerian student community,” NANS said.
The national student body specifically praised the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for what it described as his “unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property” and for providing the necessary support that facilitated the operation.
The association also commended the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, for “exemplary leadership, strategic coordination and commitment.”
“His professionalism, determination and effective deployment of security resources played a significant role in the successful outcome of the operation. The Ogun State Police Command has once again demonstrated its dedication to protecting the lives of citizens and restoring public confidence,” NANS said.
NANS further appreciated personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, local security outfits and all others involved in the rescue mission.
It noted that their “bravery, intelligence gathering and collaborative efforts ensured that the students were rescued without harm.”
“This successful operation demonstrates that with effective collaboration, intelligence-driven policing and strong government support, criminal elements can be decisively confronted,” the association added.
NANS urged security agencies to sustain efforts to safeguard students and educational institutions nationwide, and reiterated its call for “continuous strengthening of security around campuses and student host communities to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
The association also congratulated the rescued students and their families, and thanked everyone who contributed to the successful operation.
