The National Association of Nigerian Students has called on President Bola Tinubu to, as a matter of urgency, reinstate the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu
Recall that President Bola Tinubu on the 8th of January, 2024, announced the suspension of Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
In a statement on Monday afternoon, 8th January, 2024, presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, said his principal ordered the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, “to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions” involving the ministry and “one or more agencies thereunder”.
“We, at the Nigerian Association of Nigerian Students National Headquarters, urgently call upon the Federal Government, particularly our amiable President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to act swiftly and reinstate Dr Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Her proven experience, dedication, and impeccable record make her the ideal candidate to continue leading the Ministry’s essential work”, it said. The group further called on all political actors to refrain from exploiting Dr Edu’s suspension for personal gain, adding that the fight against poverty and the welfare of the most vulnerable citizens should unite the country, not being used for political manoeuvring.
