The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has affirmed Comrade Francis Abiola Gabriel as the substantive Chairman of the Ogun Joint Campus Council (JCC).

This was conveyed in a Tuesday statement signed by NANS National Public Relations Officer (PRO), Comrade Samson Adeyemi, and sent to Sun online.

NANS said the clarification became necessary in light of alleged interference in the affairs of Ogun JCC by the office of Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Student Matters.

The national student body warned against actions capable of causing unrest, division, and tension within the student movement in Ogun State.

“NANS National has observed with serious concern the continued attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of NANS Ogun JCC and instigate disunity among student leaders across the state,” the statement reads in part.

NANS warned that any further attempt to destabilise the peaceful atmosphere within the student movement will be firmly resisted.

It added, “For the avoidance of doubt, Comrade Francis Abiola Gabriel remains the duly recognised and substantive Chairman of NANS Ogun JCC until the next convention is duly conducted in Ogun State in accordance with the constitution of NANS.

“His leadership remains legitimate, recognised, and supported by the NANS National body and the majority of student leaders across Ogun State.

“The national body also affirms that Comrade Francis Abiola Gabriel continues to enjoy the overwhelming support and confidence of student leaders in Ogun State due to his tremendous efforts, achievements, commitment to unity, and dedication to the welfare and progress of students.

“Under his leadership, NANS Ogun JCC has experienced stability, coordination, and constructive engagement with relevant stakeholders.

“It is important to state that the student movement in Ogun State has enjoyed relative peace and progress in recent times, particularly after undue interference in the association’s affairs was reduced.

“This peaceful atmosphere has allowed students to begin to witness and appreciate the developmental efforts and welfarism initiatives of the Ogun State Government, which were previously hindered by unnecessary interference and distractions.”
