NAFDAC raids illegal herbal product facility, arrests manager in Lagos

Abdullazeez Saidu

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, and arrested its manager.

The agency disclosed this in an X post on Wednesday.

According to the post, the raid followed a report published by a national daily on October 10, 2026, concerning herbal products bearing falsified NAFDAC registration numbers.

The agency said its investigative team conducted surveillance and discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing NAFDAC Registration Number A7-1827L.

It noted that verification through NAFDAC’s NAPAMS portal revealed that the registration number belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup, confirming its fraudulent use on the herbal products.

“During the operation, the company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer was absent, while the company manager was arrested for further interrogation,” the post reads in part.

The arrested suspect was identified as 39-year-old Abdullazeez Saidu.

NAFDAC urged members of the public to provide credible information on suspected illegal manufacturing activities through its Call Centre on 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or via email at [email protected].

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health by clamping down on falsified and unwholesome regulated products.
