NAF, Benue govt partner to strengthen child protection, women empowerment

The Nigerian Air Force Tactical Air Command, TAC, in Makurdi has promised to synergize with the Benue State Government to strengthen Child Protection and Women Empowerment in the state. 

The agreement was reached when Commissioner in charge of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Theresa Ikwue Tuesday led a delegation on an advocacy visit to the Air Officer Commanding, AOC, TAC, Makurdi, Air Vice Marshall, Patrick Obeya soliciting partnership to protect the vulnerable and uplift families within the NAF Base and surrounding communities.

Mrs Ikwue who said every child deserved to grow without fear highlighted that through joint awareness campaigns, training, capacity building and empowerment programmes for women and families, their safety, dignity and opportunity will be promoted and sustained.

She expressed Governor Hyacinth Alia’s gratitude to the Makurdi TAC for its dedication to safeguarding lives and property resulting in stability and hope for the people stressing that ensuring family welfare was a shared responsibility towards attainment of a more dignified society.

Alligning himself with the request, the AOC, TAC, Nigerian Air force, Makurdi, Air Vice Marshall Patrick Obeya said in addition to ensuring Women and Children were secured, the Command had been involved in Community development and medical outreaches as a way of giving back to the host community.

He directed the Nigeria Air Force Officers Wives Association, (NAFOWA) to follow up on the collaboration for optimal results.

Speaking on behalf of female personnel, Commanding Officer  profession Allied to Medicine, Group Captain E. J. Alabila testified that the Nigerian Air Force provides equal opportunity for the female personnel to thrive in all trades alongside their male counterpart.

Alabila commended Mrs Ikwue for choosing to give the Benue Woman a chance to live with dignity and purpose while Secretary NAFOWA, Mrs Ruth Viashima expressed readiness to partner the ministry for best outcomes.

Air Vice Marshall Obeya sealed the partnership with a presention of gifts to the Commissioner in line with the Command’s Tradition.
