The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has questioned the commitment of the President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Festus Osifo, to labour leadership in the country, describing him as an absentee president.

Ajaero made the allegation on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, amid the ongoing disagreement between the two labour centres over the N70,000 transport allowance approved for workers by President Bola Tinubu.

According to the NLC President, Osifo does not reside in Nigeria and only comes into the country occasionally to attend meetings.

“He is an absentee president of the TUC; he doesn’t live in Nigeria. He comes in from the United States to attend meetings and rush back,” Ajaero said.

He further challenged the TUC President to prove his residency in the country.

“You can’t be living abroad and then hold a position in a central-level organization. I challenge him and the Nigerian Immigration Service to prove whether he has been in this country for four to five months this year,” Ajaero added.
